Defence organisations throughout the world are grappling with the challenge of networking the military so that the right information can be delivered to the right place at the right time. Network Centric Warfare (Network Enabled Capability et al) is variously defined by those charged with delivering the capability, but the challenges are the same regardless of the definition. These challenges include achieving synchronised interoperability across a diverse range of platforms and extant systems with the desire to use open source commercial technology whilst maintaining high levels of information security and assurance.

Technologies and Standards
Our consultants are subject matter experts across a range of extant, current and future information and communications technologies and standards that will need to be integrated to deliver the required network capabilities for our defence forces. This expertise extends from the tactical edge of the network through all the protocol stacks right into the core. In the tactical waveform space we have hands on experience working with extant SINCGARS and EPRLS radios, current JTRS radios and are extremely well qualified to work with the future WNW and other advanced waveforms. We also work with the many protocol stacks (such as MIL-STD-188-220) and message standards (e.g. VMF) that will be required to achieve end-to-end interoperability. Within the core network we have expertise in the Internet Protocol layer and have consulted to defence organisations on IPv4 to IPv6 transitioning.

Enterprise Architecture and System Design
We recognise your need to develop enterprise wide, consistent and unambiguous information system architectures using standardised methods and models such as DAF, MoDAF, DoDAF and UML. Simplexity has recently delivered a major land based communications system architecture and meta-model using the System Architect tool. We are experienced at modeling systems and work with other industry standard tools to capture requirements or model system behaviour and performance.

System Engineering
Defence organisations have long understood the need for formal methods to control the engineering process of turning a customer requirement into a real and effective solution that is also on time and under budget. However the trend has been for system complexity to increase with the move to more implementation by software. Formal system engineering and capability acquisition methods have struggled to keep pace with these changes, and while some methods work with some types of projects, there is not one universal method that is suitable for every project. Our consultants are experienced with both the old and the new, we keep abreast of the latest system engineering methods and can tailor the consulting solution to suit the needs of your project.

Integration
In the past many defence ICT systems were implemented as stove-pipes with limited interconnectivity. The integration task then was difficult enough, however now that we are wanting every platform and human to be a node in a large network and have information seamlessly pass from one to the other, that integration task is now much more challenging. Our consultants have many years experience with integrating large system of systems ICT projects and can rise to the challenge presented by your project.

Trade / Feasibility Study
Defence projects are often high risk in either cost, schedule, capability or a mix of all three. Governments have rightly been increasing the due-diligence processes being applied to new major capability projects with the aim of properly assessing risk and taking preventative action as early in the project life cycle as possible. We have experience with implementing these government mandated due-diligence processes for projects involving a major wireless communications and ICT element.
